Discrete Symmetry and GUT Breaking

چکیده

We study the supersymmetric GUT models where the supersymmetry and GUT gauge symmetry can be broken by the discrete symmetry. First, with the ansatz that there exist discrete symmetries in the branes’ neighborhoods, we discuss the general reflection Z2 symmetries and GUT breaking on M 4 × M1 and M4 × M1 × M1. In those models, the extra dimensions can be large and the KK states can be set arbitrarily heavy. Second, considering the extra space manifold is the annulus A2 or disc D2, we can define any Zn symmetry and break any 6-dimensional N = 2 supersymmetric SU(M) models down to the 4-dimensional N = 1 supersymmetric SU(3) × SU(2) × U(1)M−4 models for the zero modes. In particular, there might exist the interesting scenario on M4 × A2 where just a few KK states are light, while the others are relatively heavy. Third, we discuss the complete global discrete symmetries on M4 × T 2 and study the GUT breaking. PACS: 11.10.Kk; 11.25.Mj; 04.65.+e; 11.30.Pb

The Breaking of the SU(3) Gauge Group

We discuss why the SU(3) supersymmetric model with the most general superpotential can naturally break to the standard model if gauge singlets and a discrete symmetry are included. This mechanism does away with the need for fine-tuning in the form of the assumed absence of certain terms in the superpotential. It also automatically guarantees that any abelian discrete phase symmetry of the GUT w...

Fermion Masses and Neutrino Oscillations in SO ( 10 ) SUSY GUT with D 3 × U ( 1 ) Family Symmetry

Discrete nonabelian gauge symmetries appear to be the most advantageous candidates for a family symmetry. We present a predictive SO(10) SUSY GUT model with D3 × U(1) family symmetry (D3 is the dihedral group of order 6). The hierarchy in fermion masses is generated by the family symmetry breaking D3 × U(1) → ZN → nothing. This model fits the low energy data in the charged fermion sector quite ...

Unified Model of Fermion Masses with Wilson Line Flavor Symmetry Breaking

We present a supersymmetric SU(5) GUT model with a discrete non-Abelian flavor symmetry that is broken by Wilson lines. The model is formulated in 4+3 dimensions compactified on a manifold S3/Zn. Symmetry breaking by Wilson lines is topological and allows to realize the necessary flavor symmetry breaking without a vacuum alignment mechanism. The model predicts the hierarchical pattern of charge...

Unification of standard and exotic matter through a Z2 symmetry

We consider a scenario in which the discrete weak symmetry between quarks and leptons is extended to the weak force by introducing exotic partners. We conjecture that there exists a hidden discrete symmetry P̃, defining a Z2 group, between standard and exotic quarks and leptons. The unified model SU(3) q × SU(3) q̃ × SU(2) ql̃ × SU(2) q̃l × U(1) Y × P̃ is discussed, where the unifying discrete symme...

Fermion masses in E6 grand unification with family permutation symmetries

Neutrino masses have been extensively studied in the context of discrete symmetries. A family permutation symmetry easily explains all neutrino oscillations and their mixing angles. However it is not obvious the embedding of such symmetry in a grand unified theory where all fermions live in the same representation. We show that it is possible to embed such a horizontal discrete symmetry in a gr...
